This series contains the records of the Office of the State Supervisor of High Schools, which was part of the Dept. of Public Instruction, from 1920 to 1927. There is a gap in the records from 1923 to 1926. It documents the activities of State High School Inspector William S. Cawthon, from 1920 to 1922, and of State High School Supervisor Romero M. Sealey, from 1925 to 1927. It includes correspondence, school reports, and teacher vacancy inquiries. The records deal with many aspects of public secondary education, including textbook selection, curriculum, school inspections, teaching staff, and accreditation.

The post of State High School Inspector was created by the Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1909. In 1925, the office was officially created by the legislature as the State Supervisor of High Schools (Ch. 10257, Laws). The duties of the office included inspecting high school facilities, maintaining curriculum standards, examining teacher certification, monitoring quality of instruction, and approving school accreditation.
